Mastodon automatically loops uploaded videos since they are short and often meant to be looped. I suggest adding this as an option for short videos (<30 seconds for example) or videos uploaded directly to an instance.

Mastodon has two different types of videos in the media attachment object.
"gifv" are videos converted from animated GIF images,they are short,do not have video controls and are automatically looped.
"video" are videos which are uploaded as real videos and can be longer and can have audio.
They are not meant for being looped automatically and it's not done for them in Halcyon.
