#84 Quick Status Request

It would be awesome to have a quick status option that shows at the top of your home timeline. The quick status would be replaceable, meaning that when you update it, the status removes the old entry and replaces it with the new status. Uses may include automatically posting your currently playing music track.

Benefits include not taking up a lot of DB space for very similar posts that may happen frequently and are only relevant for a few minutes. For an example, a script that automatically posts your current music track would grow the database exponentially, fill up other timelines with lots of very similar posts, and increase thee size of follower's DB as well. With this feature, no matter how much or often it gets updated, it would not grow the database by a lot, and it would not fill up follower's timelines.

Can be easily implemented and federated, I like this idea and have thought about similar things before :)

I think I remember this idea coming up in IRC. When I read it I was imagining something more like what Dreamwidth (Livejournal) has where at the bottom of the post there's a section with music and location. This could be auto-filled grabbing info from a Libre.fm or ListenBrainz server, configured in settings defaulting to the main Libre.fm server, and then posted manually either standalone or at the end of a message maybe with a "--- #NowPlaying ".

(That was supposed to be on new lines)

From thndrbvr @ #135:

Similar to #84 sort of.

Add a pre-filled "#NowListening to 'Song' by Artist from 1984's Album" line at the end of status. Same with:

#NowPlaying [____]
#NowWatching [____]
#NowEating [____]
#NowDrinking [___]
#NowReading [____]
#CurrentMood [____]

Icon/font/emoji/smilie between hashtag and selected/filled out text. Graphics could be configured by instance admin. #NowListening should be autofilled by GNU FM or ListenBrainz. (check back soon for https://heard.thefreaks.club ;)

What I'm thinking about is the end of an entry on Dreamwidth (LiveJournal). There could be a drop down menu listing dozens of moods with smilies/whatever that correspond. Food & drink graphics should try their best to match, if at all possible or just be selectable via drop down menu. There should be a default generic controller and book graphic with others to choose from.

Also note that: sure! I could fill any of this in manually but I don't because I'm not a pedantic twat -- usually -- and it's too much work, especially when an API or script can just grab that info and fill things out for me or at least fill out half of it, again, prompting me to write in stuff.

People will write notices simply because they want to share what they're listening to or eating or drinking. This adds more information to that.
