  1. The architect of the X11 core protocol was Bob Scheifler of MIT LCS, with
  2. significant contributions from Jim Gettys, Phil Karlton and Scott
  3. McGregor of Digital, Dave Rosenthal of Sun, and many others of
  4. the xpert mailing list.
  5. The original sample server implementation of the X11 protocol was
  6. implemented by Phil Karlton and Susan Angebrandt doing the device
  7. independent part of the server, with Raymond Drewry and Todd Newman of
  8. Digital Equipment Corporation, doing the mi and original ddx
  9. implementation; their feedback was vital to a good design, along with
  10. that of the more than 100 alpha and beta testers who bravely tested
  11. the X11 core design.
  12. The X11 protocol library (Xlib) was built principally by Jim Gettys of
  13. Digital and MIT Project Athena, with assistance from Ron Newman of MIT
  14. Project Athena.
  15. Our thanks to those at MIT, Digital Equipment Corporation, Hewlett-Packard,
  16. IBM, and many others who had faith in us reimplementing X from first
  17. principles.
