#9 Problems on Android 2.3.7

Hi SapienTech! Congratulations, and thanks, for working in the MediaGoblin Android app.

I've downloaded the 0.1.1-debug version from here:

http://files.goblinrefuge.com/download/Goblinoid/MediaGoblin-latest.apk

And I've installed it in my CyanogenMod 7 Device (which uses Android 2.3.7) The app installs without problem, but I cannot run it. When I start the app, I get a message "Could not extract private data." and then crash.

This issue is 2-folded, then:

  • Wishlist of making the app compatible with Android 2.x (at least 2.3, if possible)
  • If it's not possible or in the meanwhile, set some variable or whatever so the app is not installed if your device is not compatible.

Thanks again!

I've tried the 0.1.2-debug version from here:

http://files.goblinrefuge.com/download/Goblinoid

and I obtain a direct crash right after opening the app, with no message from the app.

larjona, thanks for looking into this. Let's first see if we can fix the issue by lowering the app's minimum API to work with Android 2.x. I'll ping you on irc when its uploaded to http://files.goblinrefuge.com/download/Goblinoid, which should be in the next day

Hi! I've just tried the app from https://files.goblinrefuge.com/download/Goblinoid/MediaGoblin-0.1.2-api-2-debug.apk It installs ok but it eats all my available memory when installed in memory (creates more than 50MB data). I've moved the app to the sdcard and now I can run it, but after waiting a while, I get the login screen, but clicking the login button does not bring me to login (makes nothing).

I've tried clicking the "menu" button of my phone, and I get the Settings screen; when clicking "close" there, I get the mediagoblin screen but the mediagoblin is in red, and nothing in the screen, just the three icons at the bottom. Pressing the icons closes the app.

Attaching two logcats, I suppose both will show similar things, since I experienced the same the two times I run the app.

Even with the app in the sdcard, I ended up with only 312Kb free in my phone memory (the mediagoblin app growed until 52MB), so maybe there is no error, and it's just that the app eats all the available space in memory and cannot continue.

Thanks for working on the Android app, in any case! Looks nice in my tablet (Android 4.0).

larjona, thanks for the logs, looks like your pump object is None, which is causing the error when you switch to your profile. The version you tried has a lot of deprecated code, so let's wait until later today when 0.1.3-alpha5 comes out and see if you get the same error. At the very least, the app ran on your 2.* device, which indicates the minapi change is now working.

I tested the alpha6 (from https://files.goblinrefuge.com/download/Goblinoid/MediaGoblin-0.1.3-alpha6-debug.apk ). In my phone, I got 88 MB free, to ensure there is no problem of lack of space. The app installs ok, runs ok, but when I press login button, nothing happens. I got no crashes, I can open "settings" and close it, and it comes back to the login button.

Log is here: https://paste.debian.net/349337/

Hi SapienTech I've tested https://files.goblinrefuge.com/download/Goblinoid/MediaGoblin-0.1.3-alpha8-debug.apk In my tablet (Android 4) works nicely. Congratulations! In my phone (Android 2.3.7) the "M" splash screen is bigger than the screen size (see attachment). The very first time I launch the app I get the message "could not extract private data" but the other times I launch the app (even deleting the "data" from the Android settings) I don't get it. Then, I get to the login screen, but I cannot see the box where I need to type the webfinger (see attachment). I typed it anyways and tried to login, and I got a connection error. The error can be due to my poor connection these days (not at home), but I think that the box where to type the webfinger should be visible in Android 2.x.

You can see a logcat here: https://paste.debian.net/356649/

eh sorry @larjona for the problem with files :(

This was embarrassing but it should now be fixed (we've recently updated to the newest release of Gogs)

Hi Larjona, long time no talk! Thanks for the issue report.

Many of these issues you are having stem from me not testing on multiple screen sizes/resolutions. Now that I am back working on goblinoid, I'll try to get these handled.

Will keep ya updated :)
